IVAN HOUGHTALING
Ivan L. Houghtaling of Honesdale, PA died unexpectedly on Monday, October 20, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was 76.
His wife of 34 years is the former Barbara A. Nielsen. The couple married October 5, 1974.
Born July 14, 1932 in Manchester Township, he was the son of the late Charles and Edna Keesler Houghtaling. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a self-employed truck driver and after retiring became a taxidermist. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the champion of the Wayne County Tractor Pull with his John Deere tractor.
Also surviving are his sons, Eric Houghtaling and wife Jenelle of Lookout, PA and Edward Lorenzen of Washington, DC; daughters Michele Galloway and husband John of Lookout and Karen Lorenzen of Rileyville, PA; a brother, Verne Houghtaling and wife Gladys of Callicoon, NY; a sister, Phyllis Hunter of Harden, TX; grandchildren John Henry and Joshua Galloway, Meaghan and Rebecca Robbins, and Bailey, Ben and Nathan Houghtaling; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Deborah Robbins and Amy Adams; two brothers, Arnold and Aaron Houghtaling; and three sisters, Esther Muth, Madeline Warfield and Aletha Stalker.
Funeral services were on Thursday, October 23 at Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale with Pastor Alice Pedone officiating. Interment followed in Pine Mill Cemetery.

JANE LOIS RIEFLER
Jane Lois Riefler of Honesdale, PA died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at CMC in Scranton. She was 76.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Riefler, who died in 1997.
Born August 2, 1933 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mollie Weist Hook. A housewife and mother, she was an active member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. Jane was also the director of the Other Shop for Wayne Memorial Hospital in the 1980s. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and its Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving are her sons, John Riefler, William Riefler and wife Tammy and Timothy Riefler, all of Honesdale, and Christopher Riefler and wife Melissa of Browndale; a daughter, Laurie Ordnung and husband Bill Beaver of Honesdale; sisters Rita Francisco of Beach Lake, PA, Ann Hook of Honesdale, Helen Cortazzo of Palisades Park, NJ and Rose Babel of Beach Lake; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Hook.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday at St. Mary Magdalen Chu R.C.h in Honesdale and cremation will follow at Maple Hill Crematory. Interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery at the familys convenience.

GLADYS E. SMITH
Gladys E. Smith of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime area resident, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret McDermott Billott, she was born April 4, 1920, in Brooklyn, NY.
Gladys was a member St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg, NY.
Survivors include her children, Franklin Smith III of Norfolk, VA, Patricia Feagles of Narrowsburg, Geraldine Lovejoy of Birmingham, MI, Joan Marie Ryno of Chester, MD, Peter Smith of PensacoIa, FL, Robert Smith of Goshen, NY, Margaret Tenbus of Narrowsburg, Timothy Smith of Horseheads, NY and Maureen Kelly of Beach Lake, PA; her brother, Joseph Billott of Long Island, NY; 27 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Gladys is predeceased by her husband, Franklin J. Smith Jr.; and her-sister, Virginia La R.C.om.
Visitation was held on October 26 and 27, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on October 27 at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg. Christian burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg.

ANN VAUGHN
Ann Vaughn of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime area resident, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital on her 93rd birthday.
The daughter of the late Frank and Mary Hamoney Kali, she was born October 26, 1915 in Czechoslovakia.
Ann was a member of St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church in Narrowsburg. Ann was a retired factory worker for A&W of Port Jervis, NY and a member of the Teamsters Union 445.
Survivors include several nephews and nieces, Frank Kali, Sofie Levco, Michael Kali, John Kali and Mary Pleha; sister-in-law Charlotte Soholak; and several close friends.
Ann was predeceased by her husband of many years, Vincent Vaughn, in 1987; and by her sister-in-law, Gloria Sobolak.
Visitation will he held on Thursday, October 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church. Christian burial will follow at Glenn Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.
PATRICIA WILLOUGHBY
Patricia Willoughby, formerly Patricia Grace Freda, died on October 7, 2008 at the Franciscan Missions of Mary community in North Providence, RI, from acute leukemia. She was 84.
She was the daughter of the late Francis and Grace Freda of Callicoon, NY.
A graduate of Delaware Valley Central School and of Barnard University, Mrs. Willoughby had a long career that spanned many continents working for Special Services for the U.S. Army and as an analyst for the CIA.
She married Anthony Willoughby in 1965 and is survived by him. They had no children. She is also survived by her two sisters, Rosemary Freda and Peg Freda, both of North Providence; two brothers, John Freda of Portland, OR and Richard Freda of Damascus, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass was held at the chapel of the Community House of the Franciscan Missions of Mary, followed by interment in the private cemetery of the facility.
