Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River celebrates its 30th at Damascus Elementary School

DAMASCUS, PA — This year, the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River turns 30. The anniversary will be celebrated at Damascus Elementary School with the Upper Delaware EXPO on Saturday, October 25. There will be an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. that spotlights the history of the organization, and winners of a ninth- through 12-grade art contest will be announced and awarded their prizes.

Educational programs during the day will include the very popular “Birds of Prey” program by the Delaware Valley Raptor Center at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., “Resource Management through the Years” at 12:30 p.m., and a reptiles and amphibians program by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission at 2:00 p.m.

Outside throughout the day, river safety and rescue demonstrations will take place. At 3:00 p.m. the New York State Environmental Conservation will have a demonstration of their K-9 Search and Rescue Unit.

A photographic exhibit by photographer David B. Soete and award-winning student artwork will be on display, capturing the natural beauty and cultural landscape of the river valley. Exhibits by several Upper Delaware partners will highlight their collaborative contributions to the “partnering to protect the river” philosophy that makes the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River a National Park Service partnership success.

Boy Scout Troop #122 will have food available for sale throughout the day.
