ELMER BRUCHER

Elmer “Shorty” Brucher of Bethel, NY passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. He was 83.

A lifelong resident of Bethel, he was born to the late Charles and Cora Edwards Brucher in Bethel on February 10, 1925.

He was a self-employed contractor and secretary/treasurer of the Evergreen Cemetery Association in Bethel. He was a 40-year member of the Bethel Lions Club, former member of the White Lake Fire Department and a member of the Town of Bethel Planning Board.

He is survived by his wife, Jean at home; two sons, Lloyd A. Brucher of White Lake, NY and Roger C. Brucher and wife Carol of Callicoon, NY; three grandchildren, Kristen, Kevin and Lloyd Brucher; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Lloyd, Walt and Ernie; and sister Lillian Phillips.

Funeral services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., Kauneonga Lake, NY on Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Nancy Asbury officiating.

Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery.

JOHN DOHERTY

John Anthony Doherty of Hawley, PA died on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. He was 61.

Born January 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Bernard and Florence Doherty. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned three Purple Heart medals.

After he was disabled in an accident, he enjoyed walking and making friends. He was a past member of the Brannen-van den Berg VFW Post 8645 in New Paltz, NY.

He is survived by son Jad T. Doherty, Honolulu, HI; daughter, Brooke L. Doherty, Honesdale; his ex-wife and friend Sue Barnes and husband Arthur C., Barryville, NY; friend and caretaker Frank Getz of Hawley; sister Alice Doherty; and many caring friends.

Cremation was at Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald, PA.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.


DOROTHY L. FLETCHER

Dorothy L. Fletcher of Forest City, PA died September 25, 2008, surrounded by family. She was 86.

Born September 28, 1921 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late A. Harry & Esther Ehrhardt Pellett.

She graduated from Scranton Lackawanna College. She retired from Weston Instruments, Archbald, PA. She resided in Waymart for 34 years before moving to Forest City in 1985. She was the widow of Walter H. Fletcher, who died August 17, 1985.

She was a member of the Clifford United Methodist Church; a 55-year member and past matron of Laurel chapter Order of Eastern Star, Waymart, PA; a former member of the Mt. View Senior Citizens, Clifford, PA, Senior Citizen Center, Lenoxville, PA and Tri- County Seniors, Forest City, where she enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a charter member of the WWII Memorial Society and an avid sports fan of the Phillies, Eagles and 76er’s.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and soon-to-be great-grandmother. She loved the Lord and read her Bible and said her daily prayers. She will be deeply missed, especially by her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Diane Perkin of Beach Lake, PA and Linda and husband John Demianovich, Forest City; granddaughters Kira and husband Mark Holeva and Tara Demianovich, all of Forest City; sister Marjorie and husband Elston Mannick, Waymart; a niece, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard.

The funeral took place October 6, 2008 at the Oliver R. Shifler Funeral Home, Inc., Carbondale with services by the Rev. Susan Wenner. Interment followed in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.


ARTHUR HOPKINS NOBLE

Arthur Hopkins Noble of Honesdale, PA died on September 30, 2008 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. He was 84.

His wife of 53 years, Grace Sluman Noble, died in 2004.

Born February 7, 1924, Art was the son of the late Clarence and Lucille Hopkins Noble. A lifelong Calkins, PA resident, he owned and operated the Noble Lea dairy farm until 1979, at which time he started a successful dairy equipment sales and service business. Arthur was a leader in many community, dairy, and farm organizations; past president of the Damascus school board, past Master of the Honesdale Lodge #218 F.A.M. and of the Calkins Labor Grange #1063; and a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church.

He is survived by son Stephen Noble and wife Frances of Fairport, NY; daughter Sara and husband Charles Lipsmeyer of Honesdale; four grandchildren, Matthew and Sara Noble of Fairport, Justin DeMauro of San Diego, CA and Blake Lipsmeyer of Honesdale; sisters Eloise Fasshauer, Honesdale, Evelyn and Russell Ridd, Honesdale, Elsie and Wrlliam Culp, Lititz, PA, and Ida and Joseph Mills of Concord, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, Beach Lake, PA on Friday, October 3 with the Reverend Mark Terwilliger officiating. Interment followed at the Callan Cemetery.


DIANA A. MOLLEMA

Diana A. Mollema of Pond Eddy, NY, a manager for Sullivan ARC and a longtime resident of the area, died on Friday, October 3, 2008 at Orange County Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown, NY. She was 56.

The daughter of the late Michael Petruk and Anna Petruk, she was born January 30, 1952 in Freeport, Long Island.

Diana attended St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Shohola, PA and St. Anthony’s of Padua R.C. Church, Yulan, NY.

A family statement reads: “Diana was a terrific and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was very dedicated to her job. She loved to help people. She will greatly be missed by her family and all that knew her.”

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Thomas Mollema; sons Christopher and wife Natalie of Rock Hill, SC and Ryan and companion Jamie; grandsons Troy and Carter of Rock Hill, SC; her mother, Anna of Pond Eddy; brother Michael Petruk and wife Jeanie of Maine; sister Linda Petruk and husband Michael of Pond Eddy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 6 at St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Shohola, PA. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

CLARETA M. SERGEANT

Clareta M. Sergeant of Riverside, NJ, formerly of Eldred, NY and Woodhaven, NY, passed away on September 27, 2008 at Cinnaminson Center Nursing Home, Cinnaminson, NJ. She was 90.

She was born on November 2, 1917 in Shohola, PA to Edward and Kathryn Livingston Kuen.

She married the late Charles Sergeant on September 27, 1937, at the Eldred Congregational Church.

A family statement reads: “Clareta was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.”

Survivors include sister Arlene Kuen of the State of Florida; son Charles Sergeant of Riverside, NJ; daughters Mauna Krumm and husband Ronald of Cinnaminson, NJ and Jean Marino and husband Dominick of Forestburgh, NY; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband; sisters Dorothy Smith, Helen Sergeant and Hazel Anastasio; brother Arthur Kuen; and daughter Linda Houlihan.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 1 at the Knight Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, NY with the Rev. Robert Mayer officiating. Interment took place at Montoza Cemetery, Eldred, NY.


ALICE F. TYLER

Alice F. Tyler of Narrowsburg NY, a lifelong area resident, died on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 85.

Alice was the widow of David Tyler, who passed away June 13, 1999.

She was a member of the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church and the church’s Ladies Auxiliary in Lake Huntington, NY, and a Sunday School teacher for seven years. Alice was a school bus driver for 25 years for Narrowsburg Central School and was also employed by Kittatinny Campgrounds and New Hope, both in Barryville, NY.

A family statement reads: “Alice always enjoyed the trip to Niagara Falls; trips to Florida and bus trips to AC. If there was bingo, she’d be there. She visited grandson Paul in Key West and was joined by daughters Marion and Alice. She was thrilled to receive her wings. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.”

She is survived by her children, Alice Foster and husband Douglas Wyss; David and wife Nancy, Richard and wife Carol and Marion Barnes and companion Thomas Wulforst; grandchildren Allan Barnes and wife Sherri, Linda Burkowski and husband Jim, James Barnes, Tina Mapes and husband Bob, Wendy Julkerski and husband Bret, Paul Foster, Robert Foster and wife Rosa and Tammy Watts and husband Edward; 10 great grandchildren; brothers Raymond, Norman, Lenny and Jim Kogerl; sisters Anna, Elanore, Gussie and Rosie.

She was predeceased by a brother, John; and a sister, Mary.

Friends are invited to call Thursday, October 9 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery, Narrowsburg. NY.
