Parallel pipeline in PA

New 30-inch loops to be installed next to existing Tennessee Gas pipeline

By SANDY LONG

PIKE AND WAYNE COUNTIES, PA — Tennessee Gas Pipeline officials came to the region last week to discuss the planned expansion of their 300 line that traverses Pike and Wayne counties.

The expansion will include the addition of a new 30-inch pipeline placed 25 feet away from the current 24-inch pipeline in sections described as loops. The parallel placement of the dual lines will require increased right-of-way clearances in some areas.

Upper Delaware Council’s (UDC) executive director William Douglass and senior resource specialist David Soete attended the Hawley meeting scheduled by Pennsylvania State Representative Michael Peifer to update local officials on the project.

At the UDC’s meeting on October 2, Soete reported that the company is planning to conduct open house-style information sessions between December 2008 and January 2009 to provide information specific to the project and its impacts in Pike and Wayne counties.

Tennessee, a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation, expects to submit its application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in June 2009 and will complete the project in two phases.

The first phase will affect Pike County, which will see 14.6 miles of loop, and is projected to be completed by 2010. Wayne County’s 17.7 miles of loop are slated for phase two, which should culminate in 2011.

The company is currently surveying the line and researching existing rights of way.
