Obama rally in Monticello

By FRITZ MAYER

MONTICELLO, NY — Chants of “Yes, we can” filled the air in front of the courthouse in Monticello on October 4, as about 150 people turned out on a picture perfect autumn day to sing the praises of Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther exhorted the crowd to convince friends and neighbors to go to the polls on Election Day and vote for Obama. She, then, played music over the loudspeaker featuring a rhythm and blues tune with the line, “Got a crush on Obama for 2008; you’re the best candidate.”

Chris White of U.S. Congressman Maurice Hinchey’s office referenced the Wall Street bailout in his remarks. He said of politicians in Washington, “They can act quickly when the people at the top are in trouble, but where have they been for the rest of us for the last eight years?”

James Greier, supervisor of the Town of Fremont, took the stage with a star-spangled necktie. He, too, urged the crowd to work to get Obama elected President.
