PumpkinFest goes into the dark
Fireworks to put an exclamation point to festivals extended hours
BARRYVILLE, NY Activities at the sixth annual PumpkinFest, on Saturday October 11, will extend into the evening for the first time, with a pig roast, movie-screen-sized karaoke sing-a-long, blazing bon fire and an 8:00 p.m. fireworks display donated by The Springhouse Commons and the Datys Family.
Favorite activities from previous years will occur as well, starting at 10:00 a.m. Some of the most popular are the competitions, including the highly competitive bake-offs (sweet or savory category; recipe must have pumpkin in it; enter by 11:00 a.m.), pumpkin decorating (enter by 11:00 a.m.), pumpkin pie eating (kids, adults), costume (kids, adults and pets) and three-legged pony race. Along with the contests there will be over 70 vendors, local foods, kids games, farmers market goods and live music.
Musical performers will include country recording artist Cooper Boone, international folk singer Will Knox, local jazz musician Bobby Kyle and percussionist Bashiri Johnson & Jah Stix Duo.
The Barryville Chamber of Commerce will also donate up to $1,500 in matching funds donated during the event for the Barryville United Methodist Church, which experienced extensive damage from the massive flood in 2006.
Sponsors include Thunder 102 Radio, The River Reporter, Our House Magazine, Spring House Commons, The Barryville Sportsman, ECCE Bed & Breakfast, Java Grande, Jessie Gs Nursery, The River Market, Jim Akt Excavating, River Valley Family Medical Center, Wayne Bank, 21st Century Signs, V.Baras Architects, PC, and WDesign.
