St. Andrews presents free chamber music concert

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — Flute Force will present a free concert at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m. The group, consisting of flutists Elizabeth Brown, Sheryl Henze, Rie Schmidt and Wendy Stern, will perform works including Igor Stravinsky’s Pastorale, Friedrich Kuhlau’s Grand Quartet in E minor and Samuel Barber’s Adagio. Of special interest on the program are two contemporary works: Silver Halo, a new flute quartet for Flute Force by the American composer Joseph Schwantner, whose instrumentation includes C flute, piccolo, alto flute, bass flute and a pair of energy chimes; and The Baths of Caracalla, for four alto flutes and prerecorded sound including theremin and bowed psaltery as well as a choir of prerecorded alto flutes.

The St. Andrews chamber music series depends on the generosity of the community, and tax-deductible contributions are urgently needed. Checks should be made out to St. Andrew’s Mission and sent to Cynthia Johnston, Treasurer, St. Andrew’s Mission, PO Box 55, Woodbourne NY 12788. The series is also made possible in part with funds from the 2008 Decentralization Program.

The church is located at 5277 State Route 42. Reservations are required. For more information call 845/292-8967.
