Harvest & Heritage Days
HONESDALE, PA Honesdale will roll out the pumpkins, hay bales, cornstalks and scarecrows for its Harvest & Heritage Days on Saturday, October 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Visitors can browse the vendors that dot Main Street and view the many scarecrows that the towns merchants have created. Old-fashioned hayrides will be offered, for a small fee, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Hayrides depart from the corner 7th and Main.
Railroad buffs can enjoy railroad exhibits at the Wayne County Historical Museum on Main Street. The newly expanded and renovated museum also offers many other exhibits, and is open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
The Wayne County Farmers Market, located next to the visitors center, one block off of Main Street, will be open on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Chain-saw artist Myron Miller will demonstrate his talent making sculptures out of blocks of wood on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., on the corner of 8th and Main, next to CVS/pharmacy.
Live music will be provided by Honesdale Roots & Rhythm Music and Arts, Inc. under the Fred Miller Pavilion throughout the day on Saturday and from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
On Saturday, October 11, the Stourbridge Line Rail Excursion will run from Hawley to Honesdale, leaving the Hawley station at 11:00 a.m. and arriving in Hones-
dale at approximately 11:45 a.m. Passengers will have three hours to explore the festival. On Sunday, the Stourbridge Lines Fall Foliage train ride will depart from the visitors center in Honesdale and go to Hawley. The first run will depart at 9:30 a.m. and the second at 2:30 p.m.
There will be an antique car cruise in Honesdales Park and Shop Lot on Main Street from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, with more than 80 antique cars expected and D.J. Rickie Z, Pilot of the Airways, playing music from the 50s and 60s starting at 5:00 p.m.
The Dessin Animal Shelter will hold its third pet parade under the Pavilion on Main Street at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (See page 15).

Corn shucking contest
The Corn Shucking Contest, co-sponsored by Yatsontskys Farm, is one of the highlights of Honesdales Harvest & Heritage Days. It will be held under the Fred Miller Pavilion on Main Street on Saturday, October 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Last years winners were Patrick Houshultz of Honesdale in the adult division and Joseph Ingaglio of Lake Ariel in the youth division.
A maximum of 10 contestants will be allowed per heat. Registration will take place beginning at 12:45 p.m. under the Fred Miller Pavilion on Main Street, and be taken on a first-come basis, first-served basis. Failure to appear at the designated heat time will cause forfeiture of your eligibility. The winner of each heat will be determined by the number of ears of feed corn that the contestant is able to shuck in a two-minute period. Ears must be cleanly shucked and free from silk. Winners of each heat must be available to compete in the final rounds.
One trophy each will be awarded to the adult and youth who has successfully shucked the most number of ears in his or her deciding round.

Wing & Chili Taste-off
Local chefs will compete to see who makes the best wings and chili in Honesdale Harvest & Heritage Days popular Wing & Chili Cook-off on Sunday, October 18 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Last year, Carl Williams of Dingmans Ferry, PA, shown at left, took both the Judges Choice award for All-Around Best Wings and the Peoples Choice award for his Smokin Hot Wings, and hes back this year to defend his title.
