Pike planners present new brochure and map

By TOM KANE

MILFORD, PA - A new brochure with a multi-colored map of the county showing growth areas, state lands, state forests and existing parcels is now available from Pike County’s planning office.

“This brochure and map will be very valuable to citizens and developers to see the area where growth can occur and to learn of the present planning projects that exist now,” said Rich Caridi, chairman of the county commissioners. “We’re proud to have such a beautiful and informative publication like this to mark progress and how we should grow.”

Along with the map are short descriptions of programs like the Scenic Rural Character Preservation Program, the Agriculture Land Preservation Program, the county’s comprehensive plan, land use factors, the open space, greenways and recreational plans, and areas where growth is encouraged.

The piece was funded by a $1,900 grant from the Upper Delaware Council (UDC) and a $2,500 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

“This is an effort to preserve Pike County’s natural, cultural, historic and recreational resources,” said Michael Mrozinski, assistant planner. “We want to ensure that growth does not degrade the quality of life within the county infrastructure.”

Of the 2,000 copies produced, some will be distributed to the municipalities and chambers of commerce and will also be available to interested residents and business people, he said. “We are limited in ways to distribute the brochure and map because of a lack of funding, but there are plans to do a reprinting in the future,” he said.

Anyone wishing to obtain a copy can call the planning department at 570/226-6293.
