Something for everyone
From a petting zoo for the kids to show and tell for antiquers, Dorflinger Sanctuarys family day has a wealth of appeal
WHITE MILLS, PA The Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary will host an outdoor day of family fun on the sanctuary grounds on Saturday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Dorflinger Glass Museum, the 1867 Glassworkers House and the Historic 1911 White Mills Fire House will be open free of charge that day. There will also be a special art exhibit by the Come Paint With Me plein air painters. Demonstrations of crafts, a quilting display, music performances, environmental programs and other activities will take place throughout the day.
The Dorflinger Family Day event features a craft show, free entertainment, hay rides, kids games and activities such as bobbing for apples, pumpkin painting, sack races and a petting zoo. Community groups that will participate with information booths include the Butterfly Barn, the Keystone Gleaners Chapter of The Questers and the Delaware Valley Raptor Center.
This year, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., an Identify Your GlassIs it Dorflinger? booth will allow visitors to bring pieces of glass they suspect were made by the Dorflinger company for identification. Please note that no appraisal or valuation will be made, just identification where possible.
For those interested in the history of old things, the Keystone Gleaners Chapter of The Questers, an antique study group, will host a show and tell exhibit of items from cowboy hats to wish bones, ivory to marbles. Members of the club will present information about the history and use of many items both common and uncommon.
In the village of White Mills, docents will give tours at the 1867 Glassworkers House. The Historic 1911 Fire House will feature a new display of the White Mills Fire Companys 1948 REO fire truck and the original school bell from the White Mills School. Both buildings will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The workers house is located on Charles Street; the fire house is on Route 6 in the town. Admission is free for the day.
