Big Sky performs an evening of ‘sublime writing’

HASBROUCK, NY — “Women on Fire,” a set of monologues written by Irene O’Garden and originally performed Off-Broadway by award-winning actress Judith Ivey, will come to the Old Stone House courtesy of Big Sky Productions on Sunday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m.

From advertising executive to Midwest mom, from caregiver to construction worker, each character in the play is on fire in her own way—with passion, fear, self-discovery and even shopping. The show earned the highest rating for audience satisfaction from the Wall Street Journal-Zagat Theatre Survey. It received high acclaim from the critics. The New York Times wrote, “Bewitching... astounding... heartbreaking,” and the Southampton Press said, “A rare and exquisite evening... Lyrical, touching substantial and ultimately profound... Cancel all other appointments and treat yourself to this extraordinary evening of sublime writing.”

Big Sky’s version of “Women on Fire,” which is a benefit for the Old Stone House, will be performed as a dramatic reading by six area actresses: Roanne Patterson, Constance Slater, Sharlene Hartman, DeLois “Cookie” House, Ellen Pavloff and Carol Montana.

Built around 1810 by early settlers of Hasbrouck, the Old Stone House is the sole remaining building from the early days of the settlement. Purchased in 1977 by the Concerned Citizens of Hasbrouck, today it serves as an art gallery and workshop, nature center, performance facility and meeting place. It is located at 282 Hasbrouck Road.

The performance will take place under the outdoor pavilion rain or shine. Space is limited and reservations are strongly suggested. Admission is $10. “Women on Fire” is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
