ERRICO ‘AMIL’ CALDROPOLI

Errico “Amil” Caldropoli, a 25 year resident of Sparrowbush, NY, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Twin Cedars Assisted Living in Shohola, PA. He was 97.

The son of the late Leonardo Caldropoli and Ernilinda Bruno, he was born October 5, 1910 in NYC. He was the husband of the late Marie L. Chevrette Caldropoli. He was a member of the Deerpark Seniors Club and Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Port Jervis, NY.

He is survived by one son, Richard Caldropoli and wife Roberta of Sparrowbush; two daughters, Mary Rose Martin of Timonium, MD and Gloria Jean Grace and husband Richard of Martinsville, NJ; one sister, Alvera Argento of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by many brothers and sisters.

Prayers were offered at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, on Friday, September 12 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis.

JOSEPH W. DOSS

Joseph W. Doss, late of Sparrowbush, NY, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 61.

Son of the late Raymond V. Doss and Nettie Swanerbury Doss, he was born September 23, 1946 in Port Jervis. He was married to Barbara Hulse Doss.

He was a retired employee of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 to 1968.

A family statement reads: “He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.”

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hulse Doss of Sparrowbush; two sons, Steven Doss and his wife Lori and Brian Doss and his wife Tracie, all of Port Jervis; two sisters, Jean Polito of Richmond, VA, and Marjorie Hovencamp of Huguenot, NY; four grandchildren, Sarah and Stephanie Doss and Kristen and Courtney Doss; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, with the Rev. Albert Potgieter officiating. Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.


ROSALIND L. HANSON

Rosalind L. Hanson of Damascus, PA died Monday, September 15, 2008 at home. She was the widow of Claude Hanson Sr. who died on May 7, 2003. She was 90.

She was born in Angels, PA, on January 15, 1918, daughter of the late Elgin and Ruth Brown Kerr. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Callicoon, NY and the Damascus Baptist Church. She was a former president of the PTA for the Damascus schools, former Cub Scout den leader for Troop 122, served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Historical Society. She enjoyed quilting with her grandchildren and making crafts for the Vacation Bible School.

Surviving are six children, Claude Jr. and his wife Merilyn of Burlington, VT, Joanne and her husband Raymond Whitmore of Conklin, NY, Fred and his wife Madalyn of Damascus, Linda and her husband Stanley Lawrence of Damascus, John and his wife Evelyn of Honesdale, PA and Robert and his wife Patricia of Ft. Sill, SC; 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mary Kerr of Greenville SC, Isabell Deas of Niagra Falls, NY and Beverly and her husband Earl Porter of Niagra Falls; brother-in- law Gust Hanson of Tera Haute; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandson.

Friends may call on Friday, September 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg, NY. The funeral will be Saturday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with services by the Rev. Lauren Hertzler, Pastor Grace Baptist Church, Callicoon.

Interment will follow in Overlook Cemetery, Damascus.
