Duck race to provide focal point of Jeff Fest

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The third annual Jeff Fest, scheduled for Saturday, September 20, will start at 7:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Presbyterian Church and reach a crescendo with the annual duck race at 4:00 p.m. All eyes will be fixed on Callicoon Creek as 1,200 brightly colored plastic ducks bob down the whitewater course from the Millpond to the Schadt Memorial Bridge. The first- place winner will receive $200, second place $100, third place $50 and the last duck receives a gift certificate to Specially U Beauty Salon.

The race will be followed at 5:00 p.m. with an awards ceremony and a concert at the firehouse at 6:00 p.m.

The race is sponsored by JEMS (Jeffersonville Enhances More of Sullivan), a Sullivan Renaisance group, and will benefit community improvements and beautification including the athletic fields and fitness/nature trail of the Jeffersonville campus of Sullivan West School District.You need not be present to claim your prize.

In preparation for the race, Daisy Duck will be waddling around the village at 2:00 p.m., available to pose for photos. Other events on the big day, whose theme is “Farewell to Summer,” will include an antique/custom car rally, game booths, scavenger hunts, sack races and three-legged races, vendors, interactive events, a petting zoo, pony rides and an old-fashioned hay ride.

At the festival a Volunteer of the Year, a Junior Volunteer of the Year, Homeowner and House of the Year and Best Decorated Window (based on this year’s theme). Nominations may be submitted to Colleen at 845/482-4275.
