Traditional folk music overlooking the Delaware

SPARROWBUSH, NY — Jeff Warner, a master of American traditional folk music, will perform at a lawn concert at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 at 594 Route 97. Warner, the son of noted traditional music collectors and performers Anne and Frank Warner, sings traditional songs from such diverse traditions as the Outer Banks fishing villages of North Carolina, the lumber camps of the Adirondacks, the whaling ports of New England and elsewhere.

Among other instruments, he plays guitar, banjo and concertina. In keeping with the lawn concert tradition, Warner will teach the choruses and refrains to the songs and encourage the audience to join in. For more information go to jeffwarner.com.

The concert setting has spectacular views of the Delaware River and is sponsored by the Folk Music Society of New York, Inc, a non-profit organization, at the home of John Ziv and Deborah Rubin. Admission is free.

This concert is the fourth lawn concert hosted by John Ziv and Deborah Rubin in Sparrowbush. “The great thing about a house or lawn concert is that the audience and the setting are an integral part of the performance. Unlike a concert in a large hall, the intimacy of a house concert gives the event a special energy,” said Ziv. “This is the way that traditional music has been performed for hundreds of years, so more than just about any other venue, the house concert recreates the original feeling for this kind of music.”
