Seen around the scene

In response to my recent invitation to Rivertalk readers to submit photos of what they’ve observed in their backyards, Lori Rubinstein-Fleck of Wurtsboro, NY shared these photos of fawns and an American painted lady butterfly.

Emerald ash borers and Asian longhorned beetles have been spotted, too, in the form of temporary tattoos, on the arms of several shoppers who attended the first Harvest Festival at Bethel Woods recently. The Sunday markets continue through October 12.

Bill Streeter, depicted above, will return to the festival again on September 21, but instead of sporting insects, he will bring live birds of prey for an informative and entertaining presentation during the Earth Day in Autumn festival. Streeter is the executive director of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center in Milford, PA ( www.dvrconline.org ).
