LACKAWAXEN, PA Lovers of live music will have an opportunity to enjoy performances by six bands, while supporting two important causes this weekend at the first River Jam Music Fest. The event kicks off at 1:00 p.m. on September 6 at the Lackawaxen Volunteer Fire Department in Lackawaxen, PA and proceeds will benefit Soldiers Angels and the LCpl. Jacob Beisel Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Soldiers Angels is a supportive program benefiting American troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The local chapter is coordinated by Maria Brown. Visit www.soldiersangels.org for more information.
LCpl. Jacob Beisel died at the age of 23 on March 31, 2006, while serving in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. A memorial scholarship was established in his honor and is awarded annually to a student at Wallenpaupack Area High School in Hawley.
River Jam organizer Yolanda Bohnarczyk encouraged concertgoers to support the spirit of the event. Theres so much our soldiers need. It breaks my heart, she said. And the scholarship fund furthers the education of one of our local children.
Concessions will be available, along with a craft fair, horseshoe competition, raffles, face painting and pony rides.
Six bands will perform, including the Scott Weis Band, the Bobby Kyle Band, PEACHjam, the Mike Quick Band, Jill Stevenson and Since the Beat Down.
Tickets for the day-long event are $20 for adults (no charge for children 14 and under) and attendees are asked to bring a donation for Soldiers Angels. Items such as powdered drink mixes, cookies, pretzels, crackers, hard candy, trail mix, dried fruit, frisbees, books, magazines, crossword puzzles, stationary, pens and international phone cards will be sent to troops stationed abroad.
