JEREMIAH ADAM ALEXY
Jeremiah Adam Alexy of Breckenridge, CO, a heavy equipment operator and former area resident, died on Monday, August 18, 2008 in Breckenridge. He was 33.
The son of Cornelius and Sharon Adams Alexy, he was born on December 21, 1974 in Danbury, CT.
Jeremiah graduated with honors from the Jeff-Youngsville Central School in Jeffersonville, NY in 1993 and later attended RIT.
A family statement reads: We will remember his smile and gentle spirit forever, and he will be greatly missed. I pray that we all become aware that we are better people for how much he loved us as deeply and as long as he could. A mans life is not to be measured by its duration, but by the quality and manner of which he loved. In this way, he lived a good life, and he was a good man. God rest the beautiful soul of Jeremy Alexy.
Survivors include his parents of Bethel, NY; one brother, Joseph Alexy and his wife Chantal of Bethel; one sister, Elizabeth Alexy of Manhattan; one niece, Zoey Alexy; his grandmother, Mary King of Shaftsbury, VT; his girlfriend, Brooke Brake of Alma, CO; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, James Alexy.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 24 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, with Pastor Thomas Cusack officiating.
JAMES ROSCOE CUNNINGHAM
James Roscoe Cunningham of Middletown NY, died on Friday, August 22, 2008 at home. He was 68.
The son of the late Roscoe and Catherine Sheen Cunningham, he was born on June 29, 1940 in Middletown. James was a 1958 graduate of St. Johns High School in Goshen, NY and St. Vincents College in Latrobe, PA. He worked as a teacher in Otisville, NY and later in Miami, FL. Following his retirement from teaching, he became the educational director for the American Welding Society. He moved back to the Middletown area six years ago and was a member of the BPOE, the Eagles and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a beloved father, brother, and uncle.
James is survived by his wife, Karyn Cunningham; two sons, Lawrence R. Cunningham of White Lake, NY and Eric J. Cunningham of North Carolina; three daughters, Elizabeth Cunningham of Georgia, Miriam Lomaskin of West Virginia and Megan Cunningham of Florida; two sisters, Mary Szulwach and Martha Wieman, both of Middletown; two grandsons, Daniel and Steven, and his nieces and nephews, Lynn, Christine and Mandi, Kurt and Christian.
Cremation was held privately.

GARY B. HENDRIX SR
Gary B. Hendrix Sr. of Cochecton, NY, a farm worker at Rossal Farm in Bethel, NY and a lifetime area resident, died on Friday, August 22, 2008 at home. He was 51.
The son of Cameron and Elsie Fischer Hendrix, he was born on January 30, 1957, in Callicoon, NY.
He was married to Yulanda Ramirez Hendrix.
A family statement reads: Gary was a very loving father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved the outdoors, and he will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife of Jeffersonville, NY; two daughters, Melinda Everitt of Kenoza Lake, NY and Heidi Hendrix of Liberty, NY; a son, Gary B. Hendrix Jr., of Hurleyville, NY; four brothers, Russell Gloor of Florida, Derek Hendrix of Bethel, Leslie Hendrix of Cochecton, and Randy Hendrix of Virginia; one sister, Gayle Krause of Narrowsburg, NY; three grandchildren, Sabrina Everitt, Cassandra Everitt and Hannah Hendrix; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Vincent Hendrix; and a sister, Cheryl Young.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 27 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Rev. Lee Andrews officiating.
Burial was in Fosterdale Cemetery, Fosterdale, NY.

MICHAEL K. MESSINA
Michael K. Messina of Narrowsburg, NY, a lifelong resident of the area, died in an accident on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in Yulan, NY. He was 38.
The son of the late Frank and Doris Davis Messina, he was born November 11, 1969 in Monticello, NY.
Michael was a driver for Sullivan County Department of Public Works. He was a member of Sullivan County Snowmobile Association. A family statement reads: Michael was a loving husband and great provider. He was an animal lover. He loved his two pets, Max and Ozzie. He was an avid ATV, snowmobile and motorcycle rider. He looked forward to his yearly trip to Old Forge, NY. This is a great loss and he will truly be missed.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Monique Gale Messina; several aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws; and his special neighbors, Aunt Shirley and Uncle Harold Utegg.
Funeral services were held Sunday August 24, 2008 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery, Narrowsburg.

ETHEL ROBE
Ethel Robe, formerly of Cochecton Center, NY, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the Wayne Delaware Manor, Beach Lake, PA. She was 97.
Ethel was born on August 17, 1911 in Passaic, NJ. She was the youngest daughter of Laudislaui Brazda and Rosaliae Tokokyi Brazda.
Ethel will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she made in her years at Wayne Delaware Manor. A family statement reads, Ethels love reached out to everyone. She loved to observe nature, the animals, birds, and plants in her own backyard. She and her husband loved to listen and dance to good music. She chose to love life and embrace the living. Her caring, gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Charles Robe of Liberty, NY; her daughter, Leona Willis and husband Stephen of Jeffersonville, NY; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Sayers and wife Jenna of Lake Huntington, NY, Lenore Hasler of Murrels Inlet, SC, Jack Barkley of Pompton Lakes ,NJ, Tom Barkley and wife Robin of Colesville, NJ, Ronald Barkley of Park Ridge, NJ and Sandra Avery and husband David of Pearl River, NY; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Leon Robe, to whom she had been married for 70 years; a daughter, Lorraine Barkley; and eight sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service was held at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg NY. Burial will be in Laurel Cemetary, Cochecton Center, NY.

WILLIAM E. SHANNON
William E. Shannon of Callicoon, NY, formerly of Westbury, NY, entered into rest on August 22, 2008. He was 91.
He was born December 16, 1916. He was the devoted husband to the late Mildred Shannon.
William was a member of the American Legion and former president of the Salisbury Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include his children, Gail Mattocks and her husband Geoffrey, William Shannon and his wife Ruth and Carole Diehl and her husband, Bill; grandchildren Michelle, Christopher, Stephanie, Megan, Kevin and Michael; and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27 at St. Brigids R.C. Church in Westbury. Interment will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

MILDRED L. WILSON
Mildred L. Wilson of Beach Lake, PA died Sunday, August 24, 2008 in Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 96.
She was married to the late J. Robert Wilson.
Mildred was born in Honesdale, the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Lula Bunnell Holland. She was a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church. Mildred enjoyed motorcycle riding and quad riding. She was a member of Baers Pleasure Riders.
She is survived by a son, Robert Wilson of Beach Lake; and a daughter, Roberta Bailey of Dunmore, PA; six grandchildren, Holly, Judy, Pamela, Sherry, Dawn, and James; five great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille; and a brother, Loren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, Beach Lake. Friends may visit the church on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.

CLAIR N. WOOD
Clair N. Wood of Clark, NJ, formerly of Narrowsburg, NY died on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. He was 79 years old.
The son of the late Edwin C. and Mamie Ruth Dailey Wood, he was born on March 12, 1929 in Narrowsburg. Clair was a Korean conflict veteran and a retired accountant for U.S. Gypsum Inc., Clark, NJ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Teresa Calderone Wood; his brother Edwin and wife Lisa; his nephews Robert, Edwin, James and Scott Wood; his niece Celine Wood; and several cousins.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.
