UDWC poets to read

NEWTON, NJ — Three members of the Upper Delaware Writers Collective (UDWC), based in Narrowsburg, NY, have been invited to open the Autumn 2008 Silconas Poetry Center readings at Sussex County Community College (SCCC). The Betty June Silconas Poetry Center honors the memory of Betty June Silconas, a Sparta resident, and is a place to read, write and present poetry.

Mary Greene, founder and director of the UDWC, along with members Cass Collins and Dorothy Hartz, will present a group show of their work on Friday, September 5. Delving into themes of motherhood, family, memory, loss and home, the three will present poems in multiple voices as well as individual readings of original work. The reading will be held in the Library of SCCC from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with the second hour devoted to an open mic. The reading is free and open to everyone.

Greene and Hartz both were raised in New Jersey, and Collins in nearby New York City, and some poems will feature these locals. Others will be rooted in the beautiful landscape of the Upper Delaware River valley.
