Impeachment play to be shown at library
HONESDALE, PA I is a play about the impeachment of George W. Bush, created by screenwriter Richard Lasser and constitutional lawyer Bruce Fein. Waynepeace is sponsoring a DVD showing of the production on Tuesday, September 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the Wayne County Library in Honesdale.
It starts when the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court calls the Senate to order to begin the impeachment trial of George W. Bush. Thus begins a battle of titans. Powerful legal minds lock horns over whether the President should be removed from office for high crimes and misdemeanors. In the first act, seemingly incontrovertible evidence of Bushs guilt piles up, but in the second act, George W. Bush testifies, correctly indicting a complicit Congress, a silent press and an apathetic public of being just as guilty as he is. In the end, its up to each individual to decide where the truth lies.
All are welcome to this free showing, which Waynepeace hopes will foster a better understanding of the impeachment process and why it is so vital to the health and welfare of our Constitution and the survival of our country.
The impeachment process is not a partisan act. It is simply a tool to protect the integrity of the Constitution, said Katharine Dodge of Waynepeace, who has presented a number of impeachment teach-ins in the region over the past year. If those who have violated the Constitution are not held accountable, then a dangerous precedent is set for future leaders to continue that violation with impunity. That is why the framers of the Constitution put this tool at our disposal.
