Sullivan County Women’s Softball League picnic celebrates award winners

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, NY — Another stellar season of the Sullivan County Women’s Softball League was celebrated at the annual picnic held at the Firemen’s Park on August 23.

Trophies were handed out by league officers Kathy Jo Hoyt and Lori Kimmes to the Most Valuable and Most Improved players from the various teams in the league before the large trophies were accorded to the first, second and third place finishers of the regular season in both the “A” and “B” divisions, and to the playoff winners and runner ups from both divisions as well.

Charlie’s Angels were the “A” division regular-season winner, during which they completed an undefeated 21-0 record. They were also this year’s playoff champions as they defeated L&B Tack two games to none in the championship series. Team captain Jo Walls proudly received the regular season trophy and was joined by a host of teammates and relatives to pose with the playoff trophy, the team’s first since 2005.

L&B Tack finished second in the regular season and was the playoff runner up. Cooper Paint finished third in the league this season.

In the “B” division, Mr. Willy’s won the regular-season trophy. Sonny’s Service Center finished second and the Discovery Diamonds finished third. Sonny’s Service was the playoff champion. Mr. Willy’s was the runner up.

Individual awards were as follows: L&B Too-Jeannie Montalto, Most Improved Player (MIP); Becky Decker and Janet Eschenberg, Most Valuable Players (MVP). Charlie’s Angels–Analey Dietrich and Jo Walls, MVP; Emily Zier, MIP. New Hope Community-Devon Davis, Most Valuable Offensive Player (MVO), and Heather Bachmann, Most Valuable Defensive Player (MVD). L&B Tack-The whole team was named MVP, and Antoinette Rau was the MIP. Cooper Paint–Ally McCarthy, MVD, and Diana Sherman, MVO; Erin Shuart was named MVP. Klein and Sons Logging–Stephanie DeGraff, MIP, and Christine Jersey Price, MVP. Nugget–Sue Sakell, MIP, and Marissa Ashcraft, MVP. Mr. Willy’s–Tiffany Hauser, MVD, and Megan Kitson, MIP. Sonny’s Service Center–Jeanne Melchick, MIP, and Stephanie Babich, MVP. Discovery Diamonds–Terri Lewis, MVP, and Angi Bakos, MVD. ICC–Alice Cox, MIP, and Anna Puleo, MIP. Dutch’s Tavern–Courtney Price, MID, and Jenny ‘Mac” Colaianni, MIO.
