Backyard bounty

Beautiful and interesting things abound just outside the back door for most of us enjoying life in the Upper Delaware region. Birds, bugs, blooms and more are mere steps away from our homes. This week, my yard featured hummingbirds, purple coneflower, pickerel frogs, grasshoppers and more.

In Eldred, NY, River Talk reader John Sundholm has been observing multiple mushrooms and the brilliant red Lobelia cardinalis wildflower. I also encountered this beauty ablaze on the banks of the stream at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts while covering the recent Jonas Brothers concert.

What are you seeing in your backyard? Send us a photo in the highest possible resolution to sandylong@riverreporter.com for possible inclusion in an upcoming River Talk!
