Local artist fills calendar with flowers

NARROWSBURG, NY — Jill Mackie’s studio in Narrowsburg is filled with the expressive faces that she has painted over the years, but she is equally adept at painting flowers. Many of those paintings are featured in a new 2009 calendar and in note cards that will be published by Pomegranate, which also publishes holiday cards featuring her work.

The calendars and cards are a good way for Mackie to get exposure.

She said, “I think one of the goals of an artist is to contribute something of value to society, but because very few people get to see any one painting, it can be frustrating. Having the paintings reproduced is a way for me to get some of my work out there to the general public, and to let my friends and neighbors see what I do. Several people have said they plan to frame their favorites and hang them on the wall. This makes me very happy.”

The calendars and cards will be sold in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan, and will be available at selected book stores, http://pomegranate.stores.yahoo.net, where a search for Mackie will lead to the works.
