Santaniello’s ‘Selected Monoprints and Hybrids’ comes to the Alliance Gallery

NARROWSBURG, NY — An exhibition titled “Selected Monoprints and Hybrids,” by Carmine Santaniello, opens at the Alliance Gallery at 37 Main Street in Narrowsburg on Friday, August 15, with an artist’s reception from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through September 6.

After years as a graphic designer and as owner and art director of a design studio, Carmine Santaniello has started to follow his real passion: fine art. He utilizes printmaking, especially the monotype process, pushing it further as he explores the abstract, to create a hybrid series of works that are a mixture of woven images with a metallic glow.

“Monoprints are spontaneous works inspired by my affinity for outsider and self-taught art. With simplistic multi-printed marks on marred backgrounds, I create works of linear forms and shapes evoking outsider works of art,” Santaniello said. “The movement and texture I achieve in this medium imparts an air of lightness, while an undertone, poised to erupt, is palpable just below the surface. These works free me from the pursuit of perfection ingrained from years of artistic training.”

In his hybrids, original monotypes are merged to form artworks that are handcrafted mosaic-like weaves of color, shape, texture and movement.

Santaniello, a graduate of Parsons School of Design, has exhibited nationally, had several one-man shows and made his debut as a curator in 2006. His work appears in both corporate and personal collections such as those of GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, American International Group and Sophia Loren. He splits his time between his home in Sullivan County and Kew Gardens, Queens.

This exhibit, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, and is made possible in part with funding from the Visual Arts Program of the New York State Council on the Arts.
