Winum Barr on exhibit in Honesdale

HONESDALE, PA — There will be an exhibit of works by Helen Winum Barr, “God’s Beauty Surrounds Us,” at the Meagher Building at 416 Main Street starting on August 17. There will be an opening reception from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

At age 11, Barr won the Ingersol Award in the National Scholastic Art Awards Competition with a farm scene in tempera. In high school, she was tutored by Barbara Koski, an illustrator for “Highlights for Children.” For 25 years, the Bernard Polts Plumbing Supply Store on Chapel Street asked her to paint their showroom window with an eight-by-12-foot stained-glass nativity scene for the Christmas season.

Barr taught art to children and adults in Narrowsburg Central School, and has exhibited at Marywood, Hawley, Honesdale, Narrowsburg and Monticello. Her media of choice are watercolor and acrylics.
