Bid on some intriguing bargains

CALLICOON, NY — In their ongoing effort to make fundraising “fun raising,” the congregation of St. James Episcopal Church in Callicoon will hold an auction on Saturday, August 16. The preview begins at 3:00 p.m. and auctioneering starts at 5:00 p.m.

The event will be held under tents on the west side of Route 97, about two blocks from the church, at the site where the St. James Fair is held each May.

Event coordinator Darko Hreljanovic will try his hand at auctioneering, aided and abetted by friends, relatives and, possibly, hecklers.

Among the intriguing items to be sold are an antique toboggan, a collection of “Precious Moments,” a drum from Mozambique, a solid wood pigeon-hole desk, a four-volume set of the 1851 Documentary History of New York State, a $50 gift certificate for dinner at the Main Street Cafe in Narrowsburg, papyrus art work from Egypt, a brand new golf set (bag, clubs, balls, shoes), a collapsible Arts and Crafts style bookcase and an old steamer trunk.

There will also be fine china, furniture, decorative items, vinyl records and much more.

This is an outdoor event. Bring your lawn chair or sit-upon. In case of rain, it will be rescheduled for August 23.
