Red Eft takes a third look

Bruce, Perlmetter and Sigunick explore connections between

the mundane and the spiritual

WURTSBORO, NY — The Red Eft Gallery will present the third of its “Closer Look” shows on Saturday, August 9 through September 1. The shows are a series of expanded exhibitions of small groups of painters, sculptors and photographers selected from the more than 20 artists introduced in “First Look 1” and “First Look 2,” the inaugural shows of the 2008 season.

“Closer Look 3” focuses on the works of Richard Bruce, Jules Perlmutter and Judy Sigunick. These artists, although very different from each other in style, all make an intense connection between the “real” world and the inner person; the mundane and the spiritual. An artists’ reception will be held on August 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Bruce studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, the Vermont Studio School in Johnson, VT and received his BFA at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia. He has exhibited widely throughout the U.S. including solo shows at the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries, Beacon; Karen Sanders Fine Art, Sag Harbor; LTMH Gallery 22 E. 72nd Street, New York City; and has been reviewed in many publications, including The New York Times.

Perlmutter received his certification of completion at Cooper Union Art School in New York City, and his BFA at Yale University School of Design. He was awarded a Fulbright for Painting and Study in France, where he worked and exhibited. He returned to the United States in 1965, and worked as a graphic designer until 1994. He then resumed painting and exhibiting widely throughout Europe and the United States.

Sigunick received her BA at the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, IL and her MFA at SUNY, New Paltz. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and has been widely reviewed. Her teaching includes SUNY Dutchess, SUNY New Paltz, Marist College and Peters Valley Art and Craft Center. She recently served as Director of Visual Arts for the Village of Ellenville, where she created the widely admired annual “10 x 10 x 10” exhibits. She also writes about art and artists, and her articles may be read at elephantsandothermatters.blogspot.com.

The focus of the Red Eft Gallery, located in the historic town of Wurtsboro, NY is to introduce unknown, emerging and mid-career artists of exceptional merit to art professionals and collectors, as well as to provide a venue for classes, performances and discussions. The gallery also offers the Red Eft Collection of affordable Giclée Posters, featuring works by individual exhibiting artists.

Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.
