Fort Delaware to host herbal medicine weekend

NARROWSBURG, NY — Fort Delaware on Route 97 will host the second annual History of Medicinal Herbs weekend, led by local herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore, from Friday, August 1 through Monday, August 4.

The weekend will start with a wild medicinal herb walk on Friday at 10:00 a.m., with other Friday events including a recounting of William Penn’s account of Lenni Lenape medicine, a medicinal herb garden tour and discussions of medicinal trees and herbal medicine for fevers.

The herb walks will be repeated on all days. Topics on Saturday will be herbal medicine for the lungs and herbal medicine for cuts, scrapes and bruises.At 10:00 a.m. on Sunday there will be a presentation on herbal medicine for fevers, and on Monday there will be a talk on the history of herbal and medical theory, the use of grains in medicine and herbs used in midwifery.

Walks and presentations will focus both on historical and current uses of medicinal herbs.
