ELIZABETH MAE EDWARDS

Elizabeth Mae Edwards, a retired dining room attendant with the Middletown State Hospital, from Middletown, NY and recently of Roscoe, NY, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Roscoe Nursing Home. She was 87.

The daughter of Milton and Marie Holmes Hudson Sr., she was born February 17, 1921 in Middletown.

Elizabeth was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Middletown and a member of the CSEA.

She is survived by her children, Gary L. Edwards and companion Ida Myers of Bloomingburg, NY, Michael D. Edwards and wife Keiko of Torrance, CA, Corinne M. Buckmaster and husband William Jr. of Callicoon, NY, Dennis R. Edwards of Middletown and Sandra J. Edwards Otero of Pine Bush, NY; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie Skok; her brothers, Milton Hudson Jr., William Hudson and Maurice Hudson; two grandchildren, Dennis Edwards Jr. and Tanya McKiernan.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, July 26 in the Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown, NY with the Rev. Stuart Stiles officiating.

WILLIAM H. FULTON SR

William H. Fulton Sr., a lifetime resident of Kenoza Lake, NY, a dairy farmer, died on July 27, 2008 at home. He was 83.

The son of Frank Sidney and Florence Cochran Fulton, he was born on August 18, 1924 in Kenoza Lake.

He was a member of the Sullivan County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Jane Reynolds Fulton at home; children, William H. Fulton Jr. and wife Patricia of Kenoza Lake, David Frank Fulton and wife Kim of Kenoza Lake, Susan J. Heite and husband Brian of Oregon, Kathleen Armbrust and husband John E. of Kenoza Lake; a brother, Frank Fulton of Kenoza Lake; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were on Wednesday, July 30 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY. Pastor Bill Hagerty officiated.

Burial will be made in Kenoza Lake Cemetery, Kenoza Lake.

Donations may be made to Jeffersonville First Aid Squad, Kenoza Lake Methodist Church or Hospice of Orange & Sullivan.


BARNEY KOVACS

Barney Kovacs, a longtime resident of Sullivan County in Bethel, NY, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 85.

Born in Hungary on August 21, 1922 he was a self-employed barber in New York City.

In 1957, Barney and his wife Magda immigrated to this country and resided in the Bronx for 25 years, where they raised three daughters. In 1982, they relocated to a farm in Bethel. Shortly after moving to Bethel, their daughter, Helen Bakos, passed away, leaving behind two daughters, Angela and Laura. Barney and his wife raised their two granddaughters.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Parker of Bronxville, NY; three grandchildren: Anthony Parker, Laura and Angela; and a sister in Hungary.

He was predeceased by his wife, Magda Kovacs, on December 24, 2006; and by his two daughters.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 29 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ivan Csete officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Route 17B, Bethel.


GERALD JOHN LAPOINT

Gerald John LaPoint of Beach Lake, PA, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his home. He was 69.

Born August 10, 1938 in Honesdale, PA, he was the son of the late John Frederick and Virginia Rose Sission LaPoint. Gerald joined the National Guard after graduating from Honesdale High School where he served three years of active duty. He worked as a bank officer with F&M Bank in Honesdale, Ellis First National Bank of New Port Richey, FL, Peoples Bank of Pasco County, Elfers, FL and after returning to Honesdale retired from the Wayne Bank. After retirement he worked part time at Wal-Mart.

Gerald was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Sandra E. Giles, whom he married on June 25, 1960; his children, twins Beth LaPoint of Bethany, PA and Brian LaPoint at home, Valerie Zintel and husband Eric of Honesdale and Renee LaPoint of Beach Lake; grandchildren Kyla Rose and Jared Zintel; aunt Marie Reagan and husband Lewis of Honesdale; and nieces Michelle Higgins and Cheryle Phillips.

Preceding him in death were grandparents Lewis and Mary LaPoint and Harvey and Anna Sission; and his brother, John L. LaPoint.

Cremation was held at Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald. Funeral services were held July 29, 2008 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale. Private interment will be at a later date in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

EILEEN PAGAN

Eileen Pagan of Forestburgh, NY died Friday, July 18, 2008 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, in Middletown, NY. She was 81.

She was born in Paterson, NJ on December 1, 1926 to Frederick and Johanna Pagan. She graduated from Eastside High School and worked at Wright Aeronautical Corporation during WW II. After the war she worked for UPI.

She married Milton Russak in 1951, and they moved to Levittown, PA where she raised three children. She was active in the civil rights movement and instrumental in opening the first Montessori school in Bucks County, PA. She also worked at Princeton University. She graduated from Goddard College, earning both a BA and an MA. After her divorce in 1980 she moved to Forestburgh to a cabin she rented and eventually owned, where she lived until her death. In 1995 she became a Credentialed Alcoholism Counselor. Since 2000 she worked at various libraries and the Orange Regional Medical Center, Medical Library. She was a member of the Upper Delaware Writers Collective in Narrowsburg, NY.

She is survived by three children, Helen Morgan, Paul Russak and Elinor Holland; and grandchildren Anna Holland, Adam Holland, Jennette Morgan and Tarik Morgan.

She is predeceased by her parents; and her brother, J. Desmond Pagan.

A celebration of her life will be held at her home on August 17, 2008.


ROBERT J. PAULSEN

Robert J. Paulsen, formerly of Narrowsburg, NY, went home to Our Lord on July 23, 2008.

He is survived by brothers James, Ronald and John.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 2 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg, with Father William Scully officiating.


SHIRLEY JEAN (REIFLER) PERRY

Shirley Jean (Reifler) Perry of Honesdale, PA died Thursday July 24, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was 76.

Born March 19, 1932 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. and Irene Bidwell Reifler. Shirley dedicated herself to raising her daughters and then caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Waymart, PA.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Robert Perry, whom she married on April 16, 1955; daughters Debbie Rollison and husband Charles M. of Cherry Ridge, PA, Sarah Richter of Damascus, PA and Barbara Cole and husband Floyd of Prompton, PA; sisters Ann Klinkiewicz and Katherine Keenan, both of Waymart, PA; six grandchildren, Chuck, Rich, Kelly, Abbey, Brandon and Katie; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Laura Cole; brothers Peter, Vincent and Robert Reifler; and a sister, Dorothy Kline.

A funeral blessing was held Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Hessling Funeral Home with Fr. John Albosta, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiating. Interment followed in Canaan Corners Cemetery in Waymart.

MARGARET MARY ‘MARGE’ RUSSO

Margaret Mary “Marge” Russo died in her daughter’s home in Callicoon, NY on Wednesday, July 23, 2008. She was 76.

Marge was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 28, 1932, the daughter of the late Francis Conway and Loretta Murray Conway.

She was a supervisor for The New York Telephone Company until 1972. She and her family moved to Grahamsville, NY where she and her husband ran Russo’s General Store for 10 years before retiring in Spring Hill, FL. Marge returned to New York in 2003. She was a whiz on the computer and loved being with her grandchildren more than anything.

She is survived by her sons, Christopher Russo and wife Cathy of Grahamsville and Mattia Russo Jr. of Grahamsville; daughters, Cindy Humleker and husband Richard of Callicoon and Mary Ellen Preston and husband Peter of Grahamsville; and grandchildren Christopher Russo Jr., Gabrielle and Kate Humleker and Morgan and Courtney Preston.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Mattia A. Russo Sr.

A memorial service was held at the home of Cindy and Richard Humleker, 40 Sky View Drive, Callicoon, NY on Sunday, July 27.

LORRAINE ANNE SCULLY

Lorraine Anne Scully of Bronx, NY a retired school teacher died Sunday. July 27, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 78.

The daughter of the late William and Sarah O’Hara Scully, she was born April 27, 1930 in New York City, NY.

Lorraine taught for 25 years in the New York parochial school system and for another 25 years in the New York public school system. She was a past treasurer for the Catholic Teachers Union. Lorraine was a member of St. Margaret of Cortona RC Church, Bronx, NY, and taught in the CCD program for the church. She was also a member of the Red Hat’s Society.

She is survived by a sister Patricia Allen and husband George of Florida; two brothers, Richard Scully and wife Shelly of California and Rev. William Scully O.F.M. of Narrowsburg, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her nephew Christopher J. Allen.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 31 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 1, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier RC Church, Narrowsburg. Rev. William Scully O.F.M. will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Margaret of Cortona R.C. Church, Bronx, NY in late October.
