Fly Fishing Hall of Fame names inductees

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Fly Fishing Hall of Fame has named the individuals who will be inducted into the hall this year in a ceremony on October 18.

Ed Van Put was named for his work protecting fishing waters for fly fishermen in New York State. Francis Betters has spent many years as an Adirondacks fly fishing advocate, conservationist, instructor and innovative fly tyer. With Bill Phillips, he developed maps and information almost 40 years ago that remain in active use in the Adirondacks. Art Neuman is a rod maker and conservationist in Michigan who was co-founder, with George Griffith, of Trout Unlimited (TU) and the first TU vice president. George Griffith organized the first TU on his property in 1959. Dave Whitlock is an artist, author, conservationist, fly tyer, photographer and professional lecturer. He was responsible for the success of instream nurseries with his Whitlock-Vibert Box. Ed Zern was author of the “Exit Laughing” column in Field & Stream, a major contributor to the Outdoors Writer Association of America and founder and first president of Theodore Gordon Flyfishers.
