TU seeks to bring ‘Trout in the Classroom’ to Jeff

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Upper Delaware Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU) is endeavoring to institute a program called “Trout in the Classroom” in Sullivan West’s Jeffersonville Elementary School. It is a nationally known and recognized program that teaches students how to raise trout from eggs in their classrooms and eventually release them into their local streams. It is a hands-on process where students learn the importance of clean cold water. aquatic food supplies and temperature as important elements to fish survival. (See www.riverreporter.com/issues/07-11-22/news-trout.html for The River Reporter’s story on the program in Honesdale, PA.)

The program requires the purchase of three aquatic tanks and chillers at a cost of approximately $1,000 per unit. The local chapter currently is only able to support one aquatic unit for one classroom, and the school would like to have them in three. Donations are sought to help it reach its goal.
