More Renaissance environmental grants awarded
LIBERTY, NY Two more environmental grants have been awarded by Sullivan Renaissance, Sullivan County and Empire Resorts as part of a new collaborative program to fund innovative demonstration projects. Recipients are the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce and the Sullivan County Long Beards.
The Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce has received a grant to convert its holiday decorations from incandescent lights to LED lights. In its application, the chamber said that incandescent lights are not environmentally friendly and also lack the ability of reuse. The new LED lights will consume less energy and will have a lifespan of several years. The chambers holiday decoration committee said the lights will be ordered in time for this holiday season.
The Sullivan County Long Beards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has received an environmental demonstration grant aimed at helping wildlife in Sullivan County. The Long Beards will plant apple trees, as well as food plots with a high clover concentration, in order to make food more readily available to deer. This will provide extra strength to help more animals make it through the tough winter weather.
This makes a total of 10 different environmental efforts begun in 2008 in Sullivan County. All of these demonstration projects aim to find ways to develop a more sustainable economy, while educating the public and protecting a greener earth.
