Slow Food tour savors summer bounty

REGION — Slow Food Upper Delaware River will present two events this weekend for those who enjoy growing, cooking or even just savoring local produce. The first is “Fork to Fork,” a tour of 10 local kitchen gardens on Sunday, July 27. The gardens are located in both Pennsylvania and New York, and will provide participants with an opportunity to get tips on growing, seed starting, pest management, cooking and preserving as well as viewing some beautiful countryside and gardens. The gardens will be open from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. Visit www.SlowFoodUpDeRiVa.org for map and details.

On the same day at 5:00 p.m., there will be a potluck fundraiser for the organization at Silver Heights Farm at 216 Eggler Road in Jeffersonville, NY. Participants are invited to bring their favorite garden dish. Admission costs $5 for Slow Food members, $15 for non-members.

Slow Food Upper Delaware River Valley is a chapter of Slow Food USA, an educational organization dedicated to stewardship of the land and ecologically sound food production; to the revival of the kitchen and the table as centers of pleasure, culture, and community; to the invigoration and proliferation of regional, seasonal culinary traditions; and to living a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life.
