DAVID W. DAVIES

David W. Davies, a longtime area resident, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty, NY. He was 95.

The son of the late David and Catherine Gilday Davies, he was born on December 25, 1912 in New York City.

He was retired from Holmes Protective Agency in New York City and a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Mongaup Valley, NY. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter’s Church in Monticello, NY. He was also a member of the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department, where he was a former treasurer, president and commissioner.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Hartmann Davies at home; son Robert Davies and wife Jean of Rainbow City, AL; stepsons Woodrow Frey of Callicoon, NY and Robert Frey of New Hyde Park, NY; a daughter, Sister Mary Davies OP of Brooklyn; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, John and James Davies; and a sister, Catherine.

A Memorial Mass took place on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at St. Peter’s Church, Liberty. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY and his ashes will be buried at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Monticello, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department.


LEONA C. DAVIS

Leona C. Davis (Lee) of Barryville, NY, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008. She was 74.

The daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel Rupp Miller, she was born on July 12, 1933 in Minisink Ford, NY.

Leona was a member of the Eastern Star, and never liked to miss church on Sundays. She worked at the Family Boarding House, which she later made her home. She worked at Camp Delawaxen, Lackawaxen, PA; Niche and Frey’s; Rebers Restaurant, Barryville, NY and Wolfs Restaurant, Yulan, NY.

She is survived by one son, Orson J. Davis Jr. of Highland Lake, NY; two daughters, Ruth Rollins of Barryville and Georgia Koch of Middletown, NY; granddaughters Yvonne, Heather, Caitlin, Alainna and Hannah Lee; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; one brother, Clarence “Bill” Miller; and her husband of 48 years, Orson Davis Sr.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY.

Burial will take place in Lackawaxen Union Cemetery, Lackawaxen.

ROSEMARY DELANOY

Services were held for Rosemary A. Delanoy of Milford, PA, who died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. She was 82.

Her husband, Robert E., preceded her in death. The couple was married on January 20, 1951.

Born June 7, 1926 in Hazleton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Agnes Meier Sweeney. A retired director of nursing for St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains, NY, she was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Shohola, PA.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Cosentino and husband Charles of Milford; a granddaughter, Jennifer Cosentino of Milford; a grandson, Robert Cosentino and wife Nicole of Shohola, PA; a great-granddaughter, Lily; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, July 8 at St. Ann’s Church, Shohola, with the Rev. Thomas Major officiating.

Interment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola.


EVELYN ALICE DESANE

Evelyn Alice DeSane of Port Charlotte, FL and formerly of Sullivan County, a retired waitress, died July 9, 2008 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 90.

The daughter of Walter and Pauline Rey-

nolds Munday, she was born December 30, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the widow of the late Joseph DeSane and the late Thomas Halloran.

Evelyn was a member of the Senior Friends in Port Charlotte.

Survivors include son Thomas Halloran and wife Caroline of Poughkeepsie, NY; Maureen Schlott and husband Raymond of Callicoon Center, NY; Kathleen Halloran of Venice, FL; Joyce Halloran and husband Karl Mantenieks of Narrowsburg, NY; Sharon Mungeer and husband Garfield of Parksville, NY; a stepson, Genaro DeSane of Asbury Park, NJ; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; cousin Jane Fulton of Kenoza Lake, NY; and a niece, Sharon Fix and nephew, Mark Fix.

In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by two brothers, Clinton Munday and Edward Fix.

Services were held Sunday, July 13, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kenoza Lake Cemetery, Kenoza Lake, NY.

BERNICE J. DILLMUTH

Bernice J. Dillmuth, 93, of Beach Lake, PA and Sun City Center, FL passed away on July 11, 2008 at South Bay Hospital, Sun City Center. She was 93.

Bernice was born on April 14, 1915 to Harry and Pearl Jackson and was raised in Tyler Hill, PA on the Jackson dairy farm. She and her late husband, Willard C. Dillmuth, owned and operated the Milanville General Store in Milanville, PA for over 20 years. In 1967 she retired from the Milanville Post Office as the postal clerk when her husband also retired as the postmaster.

She graduated from Damascus High School in 1933 as the last surviving member of her class. She was a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, an affiliate member of the Sun City Center United Methodist Church, a member of the Retired Postal Workers Association and The Mayflower Society.

Bernice is survived by daughter Sandra Dillmuth of Sun City Center; sons Roger Dillmuth and wife Evelyn of Beach Lake and Douglas Dillmuth and wife Pam of Milford, PA; six grandchildren, Paul, Susan, Mark, Tim, Doug Jr. and Sarah; nine great-grandchildren; sister Jean Noble of Sun City Center; and nieces Doris Swendsen of Tyler Hill and Mary Jane Tarr and husband Bob of Ohio.

She was predeceased by her husband; granddaughter Christine Dillmuth; and brothers Paul and Earl Jackson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Terwilliger presiding. The viewing will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Indian Orchard Cemetery.

DONALD J. HUNT

Donald J. Hunt of Glen Spey, NY, died Monday, July 7, 2008 peacefully at his home with his family, caregivers and his dog, Prince, by his side. He was 81.

Born November 15, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph Patrick Hunt and Henrietta Ghiggeri Hunt.

Mr. Hunt was the owner/operator of Hawk’s Nest Mechanical-Plumbing & Heating before its sale in the late 1990s. He also owned and operated Hawk’s Nest Realty and Eagle Country Land & Homes.

He was a charter member of the Town of Lumberland Fire Department, a past commissioner for the Town of Lumberland Zoning Board and served as town assessor for nine years. For 35 years he served on the town planning board and the Sparrowbush Cemetery Board of Directors. He was a member and past president of the Port Jervis Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Hunt enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 15 and served in both the European and Mediterranean theaters in World War II between October 1942 and May 1946. He was a life charter member of the VFW #7241 Naval Ship Post of Port Jervis and founded a scholarship fund for children of the 1st Infantry Division Veterans.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Florence Thiele Hunt of Glen Spey; two sons, Joseph M. Hunt and wife Debra of Colville, WA, and Donald F. Hunt and wife Lisa of Glen Spey; five daughters, Beverly Wagner and husband Greg of Glen Spey, Nancy Benedict and husband Craig of Middletown, NY, Louise Howard and husband Dennis of Saratoga Springs, NY, Mary Hunt of Glen Spey, and Patricia DeStefano and husband Michael of Glen Spey; two step-sisters, Marion and Alma Biccum, both of Montague, NJ; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph Patrick Hunt.

Funeral services were held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home on Friday, July 11. Peter Osborne officiated. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY with military honors.

THOMAS J. KERRIGAN

Thomas J. Kerrigan of Camelot Forest, Greeley, PA died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Little Flower Manor in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was 83.

Born September 14, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Emily (Donovan) Kerrigan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Joan Kilduff.

A World War II and Korean War navy veteran, he was a bookbinder who had worked for Dunn & Bradstreet and American Book Stratford Press in New York City until his retirement in 1988.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Duff of Niskayuna, NY, and Mary Regina Kerrigan of Montclair, NJ; two sons, Thomas Kerrigan of Dublin, CA, and James Kerrigan of Greeley; a sister, Emily Kissane of Greenlawn, NY; six grandchildren; and one great grandson.

A funeral mass was held on Friday, July 11, at St John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, Lords Valley, PA, with Very Rev. Michael Kissane, O. Carm., officiating. Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap VA National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

WALTER G. LOBISCH

Walter G. Lobisch, former resident of Barryville, NY for 25 years, passed away on June 21, 2008 at Fritz Reuter Retirement Home, North Bergen, NJ. He was 88.

The son of the late Paul and Frieda Lobisch, he was born in Wahrenholz, Germany on April 27, 1920. Walter was the husband of Anita M. Lobisch (nee Lindemeyer) for 62 years.

Walter was self employed for many years as an electrician. He also worked as an electrician at Keuffel & Esser in Hoboken, NJ and as a millwright at American Can Company in Hillside, NJ. He was a man of all trades, and built his home in Barryville. If you had something broken, he could fix it.

Walter was a member of the AMT Lilienthaler Club in Schnetzen Park, North Bergen, NJ, the Port Jervis German-American Club and the Milford, PA Senior Citizens Club. He was a member and council member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Shohola, PA where he was involved in many maintenance repairs.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Lobisch of North Bergen, NJ; three sons, Gunther of Port Charlotte, FL, Rudolf and Wyb of Workum, Holland and William and Alison of Blairstown, NJ; and one daughter, Irene and Don Suter of Cutchogue, NY; eight grandchildren, Michael, James, Zach, Christopher, Jonathan, Allison, Krysten and Mathew; one great-grandchild; one sister, Hildegard and husband Willy Qlbricht of Beverungen; and nieces and nephews in Germany.

A memorial service was held on July 12, 2008 at the Fritz Reuter Altenheim in North Bergen, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, PO Box 37, Shohola, PA 18458 or the Fritz Reuter Altenheim, 3161 Kennedy Blvd., North Bergen, NJ 07047.


MADELEINE C. MILLER

Madeleine C. Miller of Welcome Lake, PA, died on Friday, July 4, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was 95.

Madeleine was born in Laurella, PA on February 26, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Levi and Nettie Buchannan Mills and had lived most of her life in this area. She loved keeping up with the news, reading books, visiting with friends and family. She kept busy writing in her journals and scrap booking and had a real talent for growing houseplants.

She was preceded in death by an adopted son, Richard Kellam, U.S. Army, who was killed in the Korean War; her husband of 35 years, Delivan Miller; three brothers, Clyde Mills, Wesley Mills and Raymond Mills; a sister, Elizabeth Dennis Richards; two nieces, Marie Mills West and Carolyn Mills; and a great-nephew, Wesley Else.

Surviving are a cousin, Donald Mills; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Miller and Stella Miller; four nieces, Nettie Else, Judy Warnatt, Melva Hindes and Janet Raught; and nine great-nephews and one great-niece.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.

Burial will take place in Overlook Cemetery, Damascus, PA.


STEVEN H. MOTT

Steven H. Mott died June 17, 2008 at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, VT after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 58.

Steve was born October 19, 1949 in Passaic, NJ, the son of Herbert M. and Georgiana (Sears) Mott. He graduated from Franklin Lakes, NJ in 1967 and received a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. He was employed as a Master Printer at the Rutland Regional Medical Center and at the Quick Print of Rutland, retiring due to poor health. He had a passion for woodworking and crafting violins.

He is survived by his parents; daughters Suzanne Carr and husband Shaun of Wichita, KS, Amy DiPaolo and husband Peter of Milford, NJ and Rebecca Mott and husband John Fallon of New York City; sons Andrew and Trevor Mott, both of Middletown Springs, VT; grandchildren Sonja, Bailie, Anthony, Jacqueline and a new one on the way; sister Patrice Mott of Moab, UT; brothers Jeffrey Mott of Tuscon, AZ and Gary Mott of Vernal, UT; and his former spouse and mother of his children, Jacqueline Parker of Middletown Springs, VT.

There will be a celebration of Steve’s life at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.


JOAN RYAN

Joan Ryan of Narrowsburg, NY a retired supervisor for the Post Office, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Della Briggs McClinchey. She was born July 1, 1924 in Sault Ste Marie, MI. She was 84.

Joan lived in the Narrowsburg area for 32 years after leaving Queens, NY.

She was the widow of Patrick Ryan, who passed away in 1995. They were married for 52 years.

She was a former member of the Democratic Club of Cochecton, a member of the Women’s Community Club of Cochecton (WCCC) and a helper for Kids Stuff Day Care.

A family statement read, “Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very active person, working with children right up to the last months of her life. She will greatly be missed by all that knew her, but especially by her family who cared for her dearly.”

She is survived by her two daughters, Sharron Cardonc and Maureen Ryan Schalck of Cochecton Center, NY; her granddaughter, Traci Cardone of Poughkeepsie, NY; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Kokko of Sault Ste Marie; and a son-in-law, George Schalck Jr.

She was predeceased by one son, Dennis Ryan, and her husband, Patrick Ryan.

A celebration of life will he held at a later date to be announced.

RALPH B. SIMES

Ralph B. Simes, a 20-year Honesdale, PA resident and retired telecommunications technician who worked for AT&T, Western Electric, ITT Kellogg and Quintron Systems, Inc. in New York and California, died Tuesday, June 24, 2002, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 80.

The son of the late James and Mary O’Brien Simes, he was born in Providence, RI. A Korean War veteran, he served in the Army from 1950 to 1952, attaining the rank of private first class.

During his career with Quintron, he served with distinction as a communication electronics technician, providing operational communications support for the Western Test Range at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. He worked at various locations at the Vandenberg Western Test Range, including the Space Launch Complexes and the west coast Space Shuttle launch site.

He is survived by a brother-in-law, Dr. Jesse Schomer of Westport, CT; four nieces, Margaret Simes of London, UK, Janet Crawford of Ridgefield, CT, Eugenie Schomer of Westport, CT and Kathi Lorino of Smallwood, NY; a nephew, Jeremy Schomer of Westport; and three grand-nephews.

A memorial mass was held at the Church of St. Mary Magdalen, Church and Fifth Streets, Honesdale on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Cremation was made at the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald, PA.


CHADWICK BRENTON SYKES

Chadwich Brenton Sykes, a lifetime resident of Damascus, PA, a laborer for Sykes Farms and a cook for Matthews on Main, died July 14, 2008 in Lebanon Township, PA. He was 18.

The son of Timothy Sykes and Cheryl Davies Sykes, he was born April 15, 1990 in Honesdale, PA.

He was a 2008 graduate of Honesdale High School. He was an avid skateboarder and snowboarder and loved his motorcycle and playing the guitar. A family statement reads: “He was a loving son, grandson and brother. He had a very big heart. He will be greatly missed and our hearts are broken.”

He is survived by his parents, Cheryl Davies Sykes and Timothy Sykes, at home; brother Timothy Joseph Sykes, U.S. Navy, California; sister Silvana Sykes of Damascus; paternal grandparents Ralph and Antoniette Sykes of North Branch, NY; maternal grandparents Charles Davies of Florida and Betsy Grady of Damascus; maternal great grandmother Marie E. Davies of Honesdale, PA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 18 at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee, PA.

JOSEPH P. TRUGLIO

Mr. Joseph P. Truglio of Westtown, NY, a longtime area resident, died Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 41.

He was born October 21, 1966 in the Bronx, NY, the son of the late John J. and the late Karen Karasik Truglio. Joseph married Melinda Benejan Truglio on May 24, 1995 in the Bronx, NY.

He was a member of Holy Cross R.C. Church, South Centerville, NY and a member of the Port Jervis Masonic Lodge #328 F&AM in Port Jervis, NY.

Surviving are his wife, Melinda Benejan Truglio, at home; three sons: Nicholas J., Christopher P. and Jonathon J., at home; one daughter, Amalia A., at home; and one sister, Lydia Truglio of Eldred, NY.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 16, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Cross R.C. Church, 626 County Route 22, Middletown, NY 10940, with the Rev. Robert Porpora officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery, Greenville Township, NY.
