NARROWSBURG, NY A group show of mixed media work titled Partners in Art opens in the LOFT Gallery in Narrowsburg on Friday, July 18, with an artists reception from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Jane Biron curates the exhibit, on view through September 6.
Artist couples have always intrigued me, said Biron, who came up with the idea to present couples work side-by-side after she saw a husband and wife show several years ago. Artists energy bounces off each other. In a classroom environment its obvious, but at home the process is more intimate. Sometimes partners can work on one project together, but more often theyll work on different projects with bounce-off-each-other enthusiasm, she said.
The Upper Delaware River region is a wealth of inspiration for the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of creative artists who have chosen to make it their homeand a number of these artists share their homes and lives with a fellow artist. Partners in Art will present the work of nine couples18 artists in allincluding painters, photographers, steel, wood and natural element sculptors, fiber artists and even a choreographer. The partner-artists are Addy Levine and Mark Sauerhoff, Norman Campbell and Joan Rafferty, Joan Glase and Rocky Pinciotti, Tom Holmes and Carol Ringanese, Neil Greenberg and Frank Mullaney, Ursula Clark and Richard Brachman, Trix Render and Phil Garfield, David Derrick and Robin Love, and Biron and her husband Tom.
Biron points out that some of historys most renowned artists were partnered with another artist. The work of Lee Krasner influenced Jackson Pollock, as much as Jacksons influenced Lees, Biron said. Partners can support as well as inspire.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY, and is made possible in part with funding from the Visual Arts Program of the New York State Council on the Arts.
