Celebrating an iconic Western novelist

LACKAWAXEN, PA—The National Park Service and the Zane Grey’s West Society will host this year’s Zane Grey Festival from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20 at the Zane Grey Museum.

Grey was a prolific writer of Western novels who resided in Lackawaxen from 1905 to 1918. The festival will highlight Zane Grey’s baseball, writing, and fishing careers. There will be exhibits covering Zane Grey’s fishing accomplishments, and speakers will discuss many aspects of the author’s public and private life.

‘Hellboy II’ an amazing rumination on human nature

Guillermo del Toro’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” is actually closer in tone to his last film, “Pan’s Labyrinth,” than the original “Hellboy.” While “Hellboy” was a competent, straightforward actioner, the influence of “Labyrinth” weighs heavily on the mind of its sequel, daring to explore the complexities of mythology and how they apply to human nature. Pretty impressive for a mid-summer blockbuster, yes?
