Student appointed to Sullivan West board

By FRITZ MAYER

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — The Sullivan West board now has a new direct link to the student body.

Bridgette Metzinger, a senior at Sullivan West High School, was sworn in as the single student member of the board on July 1. Metzinger, who is a member of the National Honor Society, the student council and other school groups, said she plans to become an English teacher after finishing college and the experience as a non-voting member of the board would help her reach that goal.

She said, “It’s a learning experience, an opportunity to understand how a school is run, and having a student member will also be really beneficial for the school.”

The public voted 599 to 319 on May 20 in favor of adding a student representative to the board.

Also at the July 1 meeting, the board voted that Richard Sandler will retain his position as president of the board and Anna Niemann was elected as vice president.
