Solar street lights surveyed at Sullivan sites

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NYThree locations in Sullivan County are brightening the outdoor lighting environment of the future, in terms of solar energy solutions aimed at improving sustainability. Solar street lights were installed last fall and are currently being studied by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institutes (RPI) Lighting Research Center (LRC) for their performance in different settings in Woodridge, Swan Lake and Bethel. The study will provide data for other municipalities that may be considering solar lighting for their communities.

River drownings take two lives
Idyllic surroundings give false sense of safety

RIVER VALLEYNational Park Service rangers, livery officials and campground owners are at a loss as to how to prevent people from entering the river without life jackets. While there is a law for anyone 12 years or younger to wear a life jacket whether in a boat or swimming, those over 12 are not required by law to wear one.
