Gypsy moth applications available for 2009
PIKE COUNTY, PA Pike County Conservation District is now accepting applications from residents and communities that would like to be considered for gypsy moth spraying in 2009. The state program is run by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) with cooperation from Pike County.
The Gypsy Moth Suppression Program is aimed at limiting defoliation caused by gypsy moth caterpillars, not destroying the entire gypsy moth population. Any person who would like to be evaluated for possible inclusion in the spring 2009 program must submit an application to the district office by Friday, August 1.
The Gypsy Moth Program guidelines require a 23-acre minimum spray block size. It is strongly encouraged that residents speak with their neighbors to ensure that you meet this spray block size. To be considered for this program:
• The residence must be within 200 feet of the forest.
• The property must have at least 250 egg masses per acre.
• There must be a residence on the property.
Individual applications must be submitted with a $10 non-refundable application fee. Community applications must be submitted with a $50 non-refundable application fee.
