Antique saw mill open for tours

LOOKOUT, PA — On Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12, the ancient water-powered Joel Hill Saw Mill will rumble to life once again. The mill has been in nearly continuous operation since the 1860s. Public demonstrations at the saw mill take place each year, water levels permitting, on the second weekend in July, the second Saturday in August, and the first Saturday in October. Demo hours and saw mill tours are held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Joel Hill Sawmill is owned by the Equinunk Historical Society and is operated by volunteers. The sawmill crew is pleased to welcome new volunteers and will provide instruction for those unfamiliar with the old machinery of the mill. It is located off Creek Road in Lookout. Travel north from Honesdale on Route 191. Pass through the intersection with Route 371, and in about two miles, watch for the sawmill sign on the left, next to the sign for Duck Harbor Antiques. To make a day of it, after your sawmill visit, travel north to the Equinunk Historical Society Museum and Calder Gift Shop in the heart of the Equinunk Historic District.
