Goldsteins hole in one highlights golf tourney to fund field lighting
By DEBBIE SIMPSON
SWAN LAKE, NY The Liberty Indian Booster Club held its second annual Light Up Liberty Golf Tournament on June 21 at the Swan Lake Golf and Country Club. The day was filled with excitement as Josh Goldstein hit a hole-in-one on six. Goldsteins hole-in-one was witnessed by nine other golfers, who were playing on surrounding holes. All reported it being quite a sight, as no one had actually seen a hole-in-one, except on TV. The shot landed less than 10 feet from the cup and gently rolled in to win Goldstein a new set of Ping irons, courtesy of M&M, who sponsored several holes.
Goldstein, a senior who plays on the varsity golf team at Liberty High School, was quite proud. He teamed with Jeff Simpson and Matt VanLeuven to win the tournament.
The tournament raises funds to install permanent lighting on the football field. The same field is converted to a soccer field for the annual Pride Weekend, which will be held on September 25 through 27. Pride Weekend spotlights fall athletes with a girls and boys varsity soccer game under the lights on Thursday, September 25 and a varsity football game on Friday, September 26. A Punt, Pass and Kick contest, soccer shoot-out and other fun activities are scheduled for Saturday, September 27.
