Celebrating nature at the sanctuary
LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, PA The second annual Pocono Nature Fest will be held on the 520 acres of land at Lacawac Sanctuary on Saturday, June 28, from 10:00 am to 3:00 p.m.
Nature Fest is a day to learn about the common and not so common plants and wildlife of the region, their habitats, special adaptations and natural history. Throughout the day there will be live music, a native plant sale and food. There will also be activities for children including environmental games, nature crafts, face painting and more.
There will also be tours of the sanctuarys Adirondack-style lodge at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Live Birds of Prey, a presentation including a hawks, owls and eagles from the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Live Animals from the Pocono Wildlife Rehab will be presented at 1:00 p.m., and there will be a native plant walk with herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore at 2:00 p.m.
Researchers and professors from Temple University, Lehigh University and Moravian College will be on hand to help you spy on plankton, explore lake life, or learn about hydrogeophysics and bees.
Admission costs $5 per car.
