Narrowsburg farmers market opens for business

NARROWSBURG, NY — There was a lot of activity for the first Narrowsburg Country Market held in the parking lot of the Tusten-Cochecton Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library on June 21.

Shoppers were able to buy wares from eight vendors, including fresh garlic scapes from the Gorzynski Farm of Cochecton and a variety of cheeses from Calkins Creamery of Damascus, PA.

Jane Luchsinger, acting chairperson of the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce, said the support from the community and the vendors was “extremely promising.” She said, next week there will likely be 10 vendors, including a baker.

Tony Ritter, who is chairman of the Tusten Zoning Board of Appeals and serves as chairman of the chamber’s farmers market committee, said he expects the market to grow as word of mouth spreads. He said, “The location is ideal because you’ve got a vital Main Street, you’ve got the Delaware River, you’ve got the National Park Service book store and the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. I think it’s great.”

The market will be open every Saturday from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. through October 13.
