Liberty Free presents classic of early feminism
Renowned actress Julia Brothers to star in Woolfs A Room of Ones Own
LIBERTY, NY Award-winning actress Julia Brothers will perform Virginia Woolfs timeless classic A Room of Ones Own at the Liberty Free Theatre for two performances only on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 at 3:00 p.m.
Virginia Woolf is considered one of the most significant writers of the 20th century, and a seminal figure in the struggle for equal rights for women. To The Lighthouse and Mrs. Dalloway (the inspiration for the recent film The Hours) are considered her two masterworks.
A Room of Ones Own was first published in 1929, only 11 years after women in England were granted the right to vote. It was instantly recognized as the most spirited and cogent expression of womans role in society of modern times. It has served all these years as an inspiration to women everywhere and it remains as lively, witty, and prescient today as it was over 75 years ago.
Julia Brothers most recently appeared on the East Coast opposite Marlo Thomas in Roger is Dead, a new comedy by Elaine May. Her recent West Coast credits include the world premiere of Edna OBriens Triptych; The Hopper Collection at The Magic Theatre; the title role of Medea at Pacific Repertory Theatre; Guantanamo at Brava! Theatre; Herodias in Oscar Wildes Salome at The Aurora Theatre; Nickel and Dimed at Theatreworks; Jane Martins Criminal Hearts at The B Street Theatre; Vivian Bearing in Wit at San Jose Stage; and Love Song at Marin Theatre. The San Francisco Chronicle named Brothers 2006 MVP for Bay Area Theatre.
Performances are free, but seating is limited and reservations are suggested. The audience is invited to gather after the performance for food, drink and music. The theatre is located at 109 South Main Street in Liberty. For more information call 845/292-3788.
