Seidl eighth at nationals

Roosa takes 10th in steeplechase

By RICHARD A. ROSS

GREENSBORO, NC — Onward and upward, Sullivan West junior Colin Seidl continued his meteoric rise made notable a week ago with a gold medal in the steeplechase at the New York State track and field championships. Seidl finished eighth at the Nike Outdoor Nationals (NON) with a time of 6:12.30 in the 2000 steeplechase finals. Zachary Ornelas of Cedar Park, TX won the race in 5:54.58. Seidl beat out Warwick’s Dan Prial, who took 17th, erasing the sting of a loss to the Warwick senior at the OCIAA league meet on May 24.

Tri-Valley’s Courtney Roosa finished 10th in the 2000 steeplechase in 7:17.16. It was Roosa’s last high school race. She will be running for Siena College in the fall.

Tri-Valley’s Garret Grey finished 15th in the hammer with a throw of 166-11, far below his seeded throwing distance of 182-02. Grey will be throwing for Slippery Rock University next year. Teammate Bob Fiedler, a junior, was 20th at 156.06. Fiedler threw 175 feet at the Section Nine championships to qualify for nationals.
