Beach Lake offers community members garden space

BEACH LAKE, PA — Beach Lake’s community garden, located behind Beach Lake United Methodist Church (BLUMC) next to the post office on Route 652, still has a few parcels left. It was created only last year and is open to all in the area. Each parcel is about 12 feet by 40 feet, and a $10 donation is requested to help pay some expenses. For more information or to sign up, call 570/729-8207.

All that participants grow is theirs to eat, can, freeze or share with family and neighbors. However, they are invited to donate some of their produce to area food pantries. This program is called “Plant A Row For the Hungry.”

This community garden began with the help of volunteers and community donations. BLUMC provides most of what it takes to operate this garden. Other area support has come from Dirlams Hardware, Agway, the Wayne County Community Foundation, Reinings Forest Products, the Marshalls, Al Branning, the Hillers, Paul Henry, Penn State, the Rolstons, Fritz Brothers (donation of the water system), Clinton LaTourette, Ginny Davitt’s Nursery, Clayton Crum, Burt Henry and many hard-working rock pickers.

The gardeners are looking for a roto-tiller that works. If anyone would like to donate one, call 570/729-8207.
