Tiger swallowtail: butterfly confusion
During early June, the Eastern tiger swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) makes its appearance. This large yellow butterfly with black stripes is familiar to many. What makes this species interesting is that the female comes in 2 different colors or morphs. The yellow morph is similar to the male, except for more blue at the rear of the wings. In the case of the black morph female, the yellow is replaced with black, with the same blue variation.

Getting down and dirty together
Beach Lake offers community members garden space
BEACH LAKE, PABeach Lakes community garden, located behind Beach Lake United Methodist Church (BLUMC) next to the post office on Route 652, still has a few parcels left. It was created only last year and is open to all in the area. Each parcel is about 12 feet by 40 feet, and a $10 donation is requested to help pay some expenses.
