CARL EDWARD "BUTCH" DUNN

Carl Edward “Butch” Dunn, a resident of Wayne Woodlands Manor, died peacefully June 11, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was 82.

Born July 15, 1925 in Seelyville, PA, he was the son of the late Lewis and Laura Hooey Dunn. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He later worked for Con-Rail.

Carl enjoyed coon hunting and horse training and racing. His favorite saying was, “Here comes the train.”

He is survived by his daughters, Marlene Cook of Honesdale, PA, Darlene Tuttle of Beach Lake, PA and Charlene Dunn and significant other Donald Whitmore of Beach Lake; a brother, Russell, and wife Grace; sisters-in-law Judy Dunn and Edna Dunn; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Delores Bass Dunn; brothers Robert and Alfred; and great-grandchild Dillan.

As per his request, cremation will be at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.


DEBORAH HOUGHTALING

Deborah Houghtaling, of Long Eddy NY, a proofreader at the Sullivan County Democrat in Callicoon NY and longtime area resident, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at her home in Long Eddy. She was 52.

Daughter of the late Wilbur and Dolores Slicz Babcock, she was born on March 11, 1956 in Sussex, NJ.

She was married to Lyle Houghtaling.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle Houghtaling, at home; one son, Jacob Houghtaling and his girlfriend, Corrie Braley of Gainesville, FL; two daughters, Shanna and Rachel Houghtaling, both at home; five sisters, Cynthia Sweller of Long Eddy; Judy Birchneough of Wantage, NJ; Connie Bennett of Palm Bay, FL; Pennela Panowicz of Milford, PA; and Lori Devens of Wantage, NJ; and one brother, David Babcock, of Dover, NJ.


WILLIAM HULZENGA

William Hulzenga of Bear, DE and formerly of Salisbury Mills, NY and Montville, NJ, died June 8, 2008. He was 66.

Bill retired in 2005 after 37 years of service from Essex County College, where he was the librarian working at the Newark and West Caldwell campuses.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sheila Tolan Hulzenga; his daughter, Amanda Hulzenga of Chicago, IL; brother, Clarence Hulzenga of Cochecton, NY; and sister, Teri Hulzenga of Tyron, NC.

Services were held on Thursday, June 12 in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE. Interment followed in the adjoining memorial park.


ADA LOIODICE

Ada Loiodice, a loving homemaker and a 23-year resident of Damascus, PA, died June 10, 2008. She was 85.

The daughter of Antonio and Elena Baldasso Bettiol, she was born on September 4, 1922 in Treviso, Italy.

She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Callicoon, NY.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Michael Loiodice; her children, Vincenza Loiodice, Elena Turell and her husband, Daniel, Louis Loiodice and his wife, Cheryl and Angela LaBoda and her husband, Alan; her sister, Elide Irwin and husband, Charles; her grandchildren, Andrea, William, Jessica, Laura, Ashley, Michael, Adam, Erica, Alyssa and Austin; her great-grandchildren, Cawley Ann and Jack; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, June 14 at Holy Cross Church, Callicoon. Father Kevin officiated. A Rosary service was held on Friday, June 13 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Obernburg, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.


ELLA 'JEANETTE' RUMSEY

Ella “Jeanette” Rumsey, late of Port Jervis, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 18, at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility, Liberty, NY She was 86.

She was born in Port Jervis on May 20, 1921, the daughter of the late Clarence and Hazel Cuddeback Gilson. She married Henry M. Rumsey on June 28, 1939, who predeceased her February 20, 1998.

She was a retired sewing machine operator for Little Tots, Inc. in Port Jervis. She was a member of the Hope Free Church, Matamoras PA, and a graduate of Port Jervis High School, class of 1939. She was a charter member of the Deerpark Seniors, a member of the Friendly Seniors of Sparrowbush NY, a 45-year member of the Neversink Valley Grange #1530, Huguenot, NY, and she was a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, Port Jervis.

Survivors include her daughter, Eleanor Gobel of Monticello, NY; five sons, Henry A. Rumsey and his wife, Dianna of White Lake, NY, James Rumsey and his wife, Jean of Johnson City, TN, George Rumsey and his wife, Sherrill of Port Jervis, Gerald Rumsey and his wife, Barbara of Barryville, NY, and Douglas Rumsey and his wife, Nancy of Port Jervis; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Franklin Rumsey, one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Wednesday May 21, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, where the Rev. Robert Grieve officiated. Interment was at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Hankins Assembly of God Church in Hankins, NY. Pastor Sam officiated.

Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

DAVID J. SEMIENICK

David J. Semienick of St. Petersburg, FL, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at home. He was 31.

He was born July 28, 1976 in Secaucus, NJ, the son of Edward and Stephanie Batiuk Semienick.

He was a 1994 graduate of St. Peters Prep in Jersey City, NJ and a 1999 graduate of St. Peters College, Jersey City. He worked as a business analyst for Raymond James in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Surviving are his parents, Edward and Stephanie Semienick of Glen Spey, NY; maternal grandmother Maria Batiuk, Glen Spey; step brother Edward Semienick, Old Bridge, NJ; stepsisters Judith Gualtieri, Union Beach, NJ and Elayne Mitsui, Hawaii; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends; and his girlfriend, Ashlee Roper of St. Petersburg.

Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Thursday, June 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 20 with a Liturgy Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 2104 County Route 41 in Glen Spey, with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating.

Burial will be at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.


JEANNETTE I. THRESHMAN

Jeannette I. Threshman, a homemaker and resident of the area since 1959, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at home. She was 90.

The daughter of Arthur A. and Rosilda Dubois Nolet, she was born January 29, 1918 in Lawrence, MA. She was the widow of Norman Threshman, who died in 1997.

Jeannette was a member of the Holy Cross Church in Callicoon, NY. She was a graduate of Carney Hospital School of Nursing in South Boston, MA, and proudly served her country as a Navy Nurse during World War II.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Davies of Glen Spey, NY, Janet Threshman of Callicoon and Nancy Eschenberg of Callicoon; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday evening, June 23, at 7:00 p.m., in Holy Cross Church in Callicoon with Father Ignatius Smith O.F.M. officiating.

A reception in celebration of Jeannette’s life will follow at the Western Hotel in Callicoon.
