NARROWSBURG, NY — A group show of mixed media work titled “Go Fish” opens in the Loft Gallery of the Delaware Arts Center on Main Street on Friday, June 20, with an artist’s reception from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The exhibit, on view through July 12, is curated by Alliance Gallery director Rocky Pinciotti.

“With the Delaware River visible from the Loft Gallery windows, there’s no better place to host this show,” said Pinciotti.

“Go Fish” investigates the beauty and myth of fish beyond the sportsman’s wall-mounted trophy or the pet shop fish bowl. The exhibit of paintings, ceramics, sculpture and photography brings together over a dozen artists’ interpretations of the slippery underwater beings and the watery world they inhabit. For example, Michael Gambino paints Koi, Mark Chuck sculpts trout, Brian Farrell paints bass (and Buddha), and Phil Hazard collages together music, romance, and fish. Each artist’s vision is unique.

The Upper Delaware River region, considered the birthplace of the sport of fly-fishing and home to world-renowned trout streams, has also developed as a haven for artists. This exhibition reveals the artistic approach to the world that fish inhabit. “Both artists and nature lovers are drawn to this part of western Sullivan County year round. From the banks or from boats, anyone who wants to be near the water with all its energy, intrigue and wildlife can find inspiration right here in our own back yard,” said Pinciotti, who often uses the pond behind his Cochecton home for drawing, painting, and photography, as well as fishing.

“Go Fish” includes the work of artists Jane Biron, Jeanne-Marie Derrick, Chuck, Farrell, Chip Forelli, Gambino, Hazard, Michael Knigin, Rocky Pinciotti, Tony Ritter, Michael Staats and Naomi Teppich, among others. The exhibit, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY, and is made possible in part with funding from the Visual Arts Program of the New York State Council on the Arts.
