Bond Street Theatres The Mechanical explores an age of revolutions
HIGHLAND LAKE, NY NACL Theatre will produce the premiere of a new work by New York Citys Bond Street Theatre on Saturday, June 13 and 14 at 8:00 p.m.
Bond Street Theatre ( www.bondst.org/ ) creates innovative and physical work that addresses social and environmental issues. The group uses the performing arts as humanitarian outreach, often working in refugee camps around the world. It goes to areas of conflict and post-war environments to work with children and adults creating theatre and expressive arts. Most recently, the company worked in Afghanistan and India.
The companys newest ensemble performance, The Mechanical, is a fast-paced physical performance that transplants the outcast creature from Mary Shelleys novel Frankenstein into the historical account of a sensational chess-playing robot built in the late 18th century. The robot was a novelty that amazed royalty, foreshadowed computers and duped the public with its clever design. Using multi-media and the physical agility of the actors of the Bond Street Theatre, the production explores an age of revolutionspolitical, social, scientific and industrial change.
The cast includes Brian Foley, Meghan Frank, Joanna Sherman, Kerry Watterson, Joshua Wynter and Anna Zastro. The play was written and directed by Michael McGuigan. Costume design is by Carla Bellisio, lighting design by Jesse Belsky and set design and construction by Glenn Reed, Linda Di Bernardo and Michael McGuigan.
The NACL theatre is located at 110 Highland Lake Road.
