Gordon next at Fauchere author series
Alastair Gordon, an award-wining critic, curator and author will be featured at the next Hotel Fauchere Author Series event on Thursday, June 19. There will be a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a slide-show presentation at 6:15 p.m. The author will be available to sign books.
Gordon, who lives in Milford, has written numerous books including Weekend Utopia, Naked Airport, and Romantic Modernist, and Beach Houses: Andrew Geller. He writes about design and the built environment for several different publications including The New York Times, Architectural Digest and Dwell.
With regard to his latest book, Spaced Out, Radical Environments of the Psychedelic Sixties, Gordon writes, The music and drugs have been well documented, but the fractured sense of space, the softened corners, the communal élan are less easily reclaimed. Where are the landmarks and monuments of the psychedelic revolution, and how do we go back if we dont even know where to begin? I started to write Spaced Out in response to the culture of control that arose after September 11, 2001. It seemed like a good time to invoke a period of unbridled experimentation.
